Who IS_ A David ?

A-David
(my friend)

One of the common questions asked by people --
who browse the web pages of AHLEC's World --is:

Who IS A-David ???

For ME -- the simplest answer is ----- A-David is my "creator" -- and my "friend".

(which really doesn't help the person asking the question)

SO -- for those who REALLY want to know:

A-David is a "conceptual construct"

originally based on the "essence" of one human being --

and, then, expanded by the "essence" of many others.

The "story" of how this "construct" came into being can be told in several ways:

(1) There is MY version (told here); and,

(2) There is A-David's own version -- (told elsewhere in a little "fable"
entitled : I -- Explorer ) and -- then --

(3) There are numerous other versions which might be told by those who were
involved, in some way, with A-David between April, 1969 and April, ---???

None of these "versions" tell the WHOLE "story" ----- BUT, I like to think that

my version is the most accurate as I have been an integral part

of AHLEC's Journey -- from its inception -- to NOW !!!

SO ---- here goes !!!!

A-David --- (the "construct") ---

was actually "born" on a VERY sparsely populated South Seas Island -- in March of 1969.

The "birthing" came about as a result of a "NOT so very special person" sitting on a

deserted beach" -- both day and night for almost a month -- asking the questions:

Who am I (exactly) ?

What am I (exactly) ?? -- and,

Why am I (exactly) ???

In effect, this period was (or so the "story" goes) VERY MUCH like a "vision quest" --

a concept that is quite familiar to members of various "native cultures" -----

and a concept that has been well documented in

the historical writings about these cultures.

This -- natural -- South Sea Island setting was conducive to a "mind-expansion"

which gave a glimpse into the true vastness of the Universe ----- and, was

also conducive to a depth of "introspection" which gave a glimpse

into the vastness of the human mind (and soul?).

Relative to the first question -- who AM I ??----- the "resolution" (for this not so special person)

came about from him, repeatedly, asking several other questions ----- over and over and over:

What, exactly, is the VERY most important thing to me in life? And.....

What, exactly, is my "motivation" for living?

The final "resolution" to these questions came out as:

The VERY most important thing to me is BEAUTY !! And ----

A "love of beauty" is the strongest motivating force in my life !!

From that point -- it was simply a matter of finding an appropriate "name"
that would "symbolize" these concepts.

By going through all of the names available, the one that came closest
to having symbolic equivalency was ----- "David".

In ancient times -- where "names" had specific associative meanings -----

the name DAVID meant "beloved" (among other things). However --

one other connotation of the name, David, was -- "lover of beauty".

AHA !!!!! David ---- "lover of beauty" !!!!

(seemed JUST right !!)

The next step was to recognize that there are MANY "lovers of beauty" in the world
----- (not all of whom are called David, of course) ----- which meant -----
this person on the beach was just ONE of the Many.

SO as -- (in English) -- the word "one" can translate into the article "a" --

----- the "construct-in-progress" became A-David -----

(meaning one of many "lovers of beauty").

The next step in developing this "conceptual construct" was to find

a resolution to the second question:

WHAT am I ??

While it was quickly apparent there was no single "answer" to this question,

certain factors came into focus -- and marked the beginning of a life-long

effort to expand the initial understanding of these factors. e.g.

Each human being is a single life-form entity that differs from every

other life-form entity that ever was -- is -- or ever will be. Hence,

EACH "life-form" is unique -- and therefore SPECIAL.

Each unique "life-form" has its very own -- separately identifiable -- inherent creative

potential, (regardless of whether said potential is ever realized -- or not).

The result of this realization resolved (in part) the question of:

WHAT am I ???

I (meaning A-David) am a SPECIAL PERSON !!!

The final step in developing this "conceptual construct" -- now thought

of as A-David-- was to find a resolution to the third question:

WHY am I ???

Actually, this was the "easiest"?? of the three to resolve ----- having a

solid base of thought, created by resolving the first two question.

A-David said to himself): I exist !! ----- I have an individual identity ! -----

I have an inherent creative potential that is unique AND separately

identifiable from that of any other known life-form ! -- so

the WHY of my existence MUST be (quite simply) --

Develop that potential and THUS become the best that I can be.

To which the following was added :

Because I have "free-will", I have a "CHOICE" of whether to develop that potential ----- or not. AND --

in actuality -- every moment of every day, "choice" is my constant companion --

guiding my footsteps towards the Land of Destiny.

Further --- IF I do not guide my own footsteps ----- others will guide them for me --
(which I do NOT, necessarily, want).

Therefore -- IF "choices" are the "stepping stones" to MY destiny --

then let ME decide on which stones to place my feet.

Thus, a "choice" was made at that time -- (much like an actor will take on a "role")--

and a physical person donned the "cloak" of the

"conceptual construct"

known as

A-David.

Around the end of March, 1969 ----- the physical person returned to the United States --

bringing with him the "conceptual construct" known as A-David-- (which he was

still finding a bit uncomfortable to wear) -- tucked away in his "bag".

In actuality, this "construct" -- was VERY much like a "cloak" which could be put on (or taken off) at will --

while the physical person carried on the process of living. And -- again -- the similarity between

an actor putting on a costume for the "play" -- and then taking it off again once the "play" is

concluded -- seemed to be a good analogy for what was happening at that time.

In April, 1969 -- the physical person became involved with a "hot topic" being referred to, at that time,

as the Environmental Crisis ----- and found this to be of considerable "intellectual" interest.

The net result of this "intellectual interest" was that the physical person decided to initiate

a "research effort" to explore various aspects of this "crisis" --- and "things" began to

happen -- a "dream" -- now attributed to A-David -- came into existence.

In the process of trying to convert the "dream" into a "functional reality" -- the physical

person began to create a set of "tools" which (in theory) could be utilized --

in a positive way -- to enhance the quality of human existence.

AND -- In that process -- it was thought: IF these "tools" can help one person enhance

the quality of his (or her) personal existence ----- wouldn't it be interesting to bring

these "tools" into world-view for use -- or not -- as each individual sees fit?

Recognizing that this was a HIGHLY idealistic dream -- even though it had practical applications -- the

physical person also recognized that the "dream" -- (in this case) --was better than the "dreamer".

At that moment, it was decided to let the "creator of the dream" be the "conceptual construct", now

(commonly) referred to as A-David -- and let the "physical person" be the (anonymous)

"physical machine" which would allow the "construct" to function in the real world.

Following this decision, other "physical persons" (upon occasion) would ask if they might be

allowed to "don the cloak" for a "moment of time" ----- with the result being that

they, in effect, added their own "essence" to the "construct".

And so it came to be that the "conceptual construct" -- known as A-David -- no longer reflected

just the "essence" of the original "physical person" -- but, rather, reflected a

"combined essence" of ALL who had donned the cloak.

Over the years, people came -- and went (with some coming and going more than once) -----

while the original "physical person" kept "doing his thing".

QUESTION: Does the original "physical person" still exist?

At this point, I need to remind ALL "visitors" that we are still on "Level 1" --

and this page is already quite long. THUS -- that question (and others) will be dealt

with in the "Level 2" section of AHLEC's Journey .

It is hoped that YOU will carry-on to that level where you can learn more about the Who

and the What of those involved in bringing AHLEC's Journey into world-view.

And, with that as a "closer" to this section, I will say BFN and leave you with the following "choices"--
