On the "WE Team". . . . .
There are people who like playing games with your "psyche";
But, just a few -- truly -- see their position.
With their "words" they can tutor your "organic computer"
( Which results in "conditioned volition" ? ).
The "PSYCHE" is the "mind" of all humankind,
Within which three "faces" are hid.
As we, also, like "games" -- we'll tell you their names,
They are: EGO ----- Super-EGO ----- and ID.
The first in the wings is concerned most with things
That can scratch its insatiable itch.
Its desires seem boundless; its wishes are foundless;
So ----- (we) try to keep ID in his "niche".
The next on the stage is, truly, a "sage",
Through whom Man can know wrong from right.
More important to some, Super-EGO's the one
With the gift for intuitive "sight".
The one in the front bears most of the brunt,
Integrating Super-EGO and ID.
This "face" is well-known (for it is your own);
When you "smile" ----- it's your EGO that did !
NOTE:
For the "purist" who might wonder a bit
about the way EGO -- Super-EGO -- and
ID have been defined within this rhyme
it is suggested that he (or she) look up the various "key words" in Webster's New World Dictionary
of the American Language -- 2nd College edition. We believe this rhyme has
maintained the conceptual integrity of that dictionary's "definitions".
Also --- the word "psyche"
(for the purpose of this rhyme) is to be pronounced as a single-syllable
( syk ).
The author thought
it "sounded better" ----- and suggested that the two-syllable
pronunciation ( sy-ke )
be reserved for the beautiful maiden -- "Psyche" -- of
Roman folklore.
As to the "reason" for this rhyme ----- people talk about
"me" -- "myself" -- and "I". SO -----
why not think of these three "names" as one's
ID -- Super-Ego -- and Ego -----
which could then be thought of as a "WE TEAM" (?)
(a "team" that also represents each Special Person's -- three -- very best friends ?).
However, when this concept was first
introduced to a combined class of first
and second grade children, the original concept was quickly modified, to wit :
The class -- after working with the concept for several days -- decided that, in fact, it is better
for one to be a "We
Team Person" than to be a "Me Team Person". And to describe
this concept, symbolically, they shortened the two concepts down to just two words:
WE (with a
"smile curve" placed UNDER
the word "we") ----- and
ME (with a
"frown curve" placed OVER
the word "me").
The interesting thing about what the children did was that they used just
ONE piece of transparent paper for their demonstration that both
concepts are just opposite perspectives of the TEAM concept :
"Me Team" people are almost always sad (as indicated by the "frown").
"We Team" people are almost always happy (as indicated by the "smile").
And, to change oneself from a "Me Team Person" to a "We Team Person",
all one has to do is: ----- turn oneself over (and get one's head on straight !).
[ at six and seven years old ----- these kids "got it right " ----- all on their own ]
[ try their little experiment -- it works ]
