Perspectives of Life

by  A-David

The time has come (as someone said) to speak of many things;
Of ships -- and shoes -- and sealing wax; of cabbages -- and kings.

But 'ere you start to read this text completely in the blind,
We'll give a hint of what's to come, to help prepare your mind.

Our "ships" will never sail the seas; our "kings" will never rule;
For these, in fact, are only "words";  or, in other words -- a "tool".

Words are never "objects", or TRUE "reality" --------- Rather,
They are merely "symbols" for the things we "think" we see.

Yes ! ----- Words are just "abstractions", in symbolistic form;
But, they've let Mankind communicate with children yet unborn.

While challenging the great unknown, "explorers" drew their maps;
Thus, now it is, no child in school would dream the world is flat.

And ----- as Man relates one past event to another of like kind,
An image of what might be true can also come to mind.

From images of what "might be" -- translated into words --
Mankind has come to rule (?) the world; and, fly higher than the birds.

Now ----- some trip up (and, some "trip out") over "meanings" built on words,
And, some have argued loud and long over trifles quite absurd.

Most know the moon's not made of "cheese" (for we're nobody's fool);
Yet, aren't there still a lot of us who say the sky is "blue" ?

The moral of this story, then -- (and the reason for our "book"?) --
Is that (we think) some things in life deserve a second look.

But "looking-at" and "seeing" (as magicians will agree)
Are often two quite different things (if only in degree).

So ----- "our book" employs a "looking-glass", semantically effective,
Through which we've viewed Man's world-of-words and gained a new "perspective".

We've "tripped" throughout the "Noumena" in a search for "common-sense",
For us ----- and "children", like ourselves, generations hence.

With this we'll end our Prologue and leave the rest to fate,
(As to) who will ever read our words -- and to our thoughts relate;

For "reading" is not "learning" if the mind remains obtuse -----
And, "knowledge" has no "meaning" if it's never put to use.

SO ----- a choice:

Explore the "tools within tools" concept a bit more ?
